Review of the Google Pixel 7 Pro.
Google Pixel 7-5G Android Phone - Unlocked Smartphone with Wide Angle Lens and 24-Hour Battery - 256GB - Snow
Although there are a few changes, it has become convenient and comfortable.
This time, I would like to review the actual machine of Google's 2022 new smartphone "Pixel 7 Pro". I applied for this along with "Pixel Watch" immediately after the reservation started and started using it on October 13, the release date.
The "Pixel 7" series, which has been leaked many times so far, has not seen any major changes from the previous model "The pixel 6 Pro". However, as someone who has been using the "Pixel 6 Pro" since purchasing it on the day of its release, such as improving the usability of the details, I think that it is a device that can be said to be a complete version.
So, I will review how to use the "Pixel 7 Pro" by comparing it with the "Pixel 6 Pro".

As you can see, the "Pixel 7 Pro" is almost the same size as the previous model, with the display size, resolution and refresh rate unchanged.
The CPU has been upgraded from the 1st generation Tensor to the 2nd generation Tensor G2, but there are no major changes in RAM, storage, battery, etc. To be honest, even the "Pixel 6 Pro" was at a level where the specs were unmanageable, so even if the performance improvement of the Tensor G2 is about 10 to 20%, it is a level that comes with change.
Regarding the rear camera, the number of pixels is the same. Still, the performance is slightly different, and the previous model, "Pixel 6 Pro," had 4x optical zoom and up to 20x hybrid zoom, but "The pixel 7 Pro" has improved optical zoom to 5x and hybrid zoom to up to 30x.
The main wide-angle and telephoto lenses now support optical and electronic image stabilization. After that, the camera function was enhanced, and it is now possible to use blur correction and macro focus.
Regarding functional differences, the "Pixel 7 Pro" finally supports face authentication. It can be used to unlock the lock screen in combination with the fingerprint sensor, making it possible to operate smoothly. I think this is an improvement over the previous model.
In addition, Google One's built-in VPN is also supported by "Pixel 7 Pro", which will be available soon (at the time of writing).
Design
The visible changes in the exterior are the rear camera, the frame on the side of the main unit, the color of the back cover (6 is gray, seven is black), and the positions of the buttons have also been slightly changed. Therefore, the "Pixel 6 Pro" cover cannot be diverted.
I felt that the "Pixel 7 Pro" was easier to hold, probably because the texture of the back and frame parts changed. However, fingerprints are still quite noticeable due to the glass on the back, and the fear of being hit if dropped remains unchanged.
The weight is almost the same, and if you're a "Pixel 6 Pro" user, you won't feel discomfort if you switch to the "Pixel 7 Pro".
Display
The display is a QHD+ (1440 x 3120) LTPO OLED with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, HDR support, and a maximum brightness of 1000nits.
Speaking of differences, a new setting called [Screen resolution] was added to the [Display] item in the "Pixel 7 Pro" settings app.
Until now, it was possible to change the screen display size only with [Display size and text], but now it is possible to enlarge or reduce the display area by changing the screen resolution. By the way, if you lower it, the battery consumption will also decrease. However, I want to use it wisely, so I set it to the maximum resolution.
Fingerprint sensor & face recognition
And the fingerprint sensor, which was unpopular in the previous model, has become considerably smoother by combining it with the newly added face authentication. So I think it's faster with the fingerprint sensor alone than when combined with face recognition.
When face recognition is set, the area around the front camera part lights up for a moment when you look at the screen, so you can see whether it has been recognized.
Then the fingerprint sensor part will change to an unlocked icon instead of a fingerprint icon, and the explanation "Unlocked with your face. Press the icon to open" is displayed.
However, at the moment, facial recognition can be used to unlock the smartphone, but only the fingerprint sensor can be used to verify identity in the app.
Also, if face authentication and fingerprint authentication are set, fingerprint authentication takes precedence when wearing a mask or in a dark place.
Anyway, with the "Pixel 6 Pro", it felt like it unlocked a tempo after I put my finger on it, but with the "Pixel 7 Pro", it feels almost the same when I put my finger on it. But, of course, this is thanks to facial recognition, so I think it's one of the decent augmentations to the 7 Pro.
Rear camera
About the rear camera. I thought the previous model, "The Pixel 6 Pro," was able to take beautiful pictures and had enough zoom, but the "Pixel 7 Pro" feels like it's one step ahead.
I don't know from a professional's point of view, but rather than a dramatic change, I have the impression that it has improved and usability, but if you shoot food, sake, landscapes, etc., as you like, what is it like? I think there is no problem.
As an example of the camera, "The Pixel 6 Pro" has 4x optical zoom and "The pixel 7 Pro" has 5x optical zoom.
Next, "The Pixel 6 Pro" has up to 20x hybrid zoom and "The pixel 7 Pro" has up to 30x hybrid zoom.
As expected, there are some image quality problems when zooming up to 30x, but it's not so rough that you can't see it, and I think it's a pretty practical photo.
Also, on the Pixel 7 Pro, when you zoom in up to 30x, a popup will appear in the camera app to let you know which part of the subject you're focusing on.
Conveniently, the focus area is easy to understand like this because when you zoom in, you can't understand what the scenery is. It should be noted that "The Pixel 6 Pro" does not display even if it is increased up to 20 times, so I think this is also a point that has become sober and convenient with "Pixel 7 Pro". If only I had the chance to use the 30x zoom.
I can't say anything about the video because I didn't shoot this time. Still, the main and telephoto lenses have optical and electronic image stabilization, so if you can shoot with 5x zoom, even if it's 1x, I think it's improved since the "Pixel 6 Pro".
Battery
As for the battery, I haven't abused it since I bought it, but I think it's about the same as the "Pixel 6 Pro". Assuming 100% at 7:30 in the morning, 1-2 phone calls, 30-40 emails, 150 Slack notifications, and 30 minutes each in the morning, afternoon, and evening to check the news. So, around 23:00, about 60% remains. Using it as a communication tool other than the phone gives the impression that you can easily last for a day.
Of course, wireless and reverse charging functions, which are still installed from the previous model, are convenient. It also supports fast charging, so you can rest assured even in an emergency.
Details
I haven't touched all of them yet, but I noticed that the functions added from "Pixel 6 Pro" are "sleep time activity" and "information about coughing and snoring" in [sleep time mode]. Item was added.
After entering good night mode, the time spent using the smartphone, the number of coughs during sleep, and the time spent snoring are displayed. Probably has a function similar to the sleep monitor of Google Nest Hub (2nd generation).
Motion feeling
I would like to tell you about the overall operation feeling, but I feel that launching and switching applications have become even smoother thanks to Tensor G2. However, just like with the Pixel 6 Pro, the moment you switch, the app freezes, doesn't close or has a display bug.
Other media have covered this point, and the problem on the OS side or the application side remains because it is not just a problem with my device. Still, compared to the initial excitement when the "Pixel 6 Pro" was released, it can be said that it has become quieter and better. So I wonder if I can return the dishonorable title with this...
Price
Finally, although the price has evolved from the previous model, there is no big difference in price. The price is quite affordable, and you can use coupons and campaigns to lower the price even further, so although it is a high-end device, I think it is not bad for an introductory Android smartphone. Increase.

The price difference between "The pixel 7" and "Pixel 7 Pro" is $280 yen regardless of storage. Whether you choose the "Pixel 7 Pro" with improved display size, RAM, camera performance, and battery capacity at this price difference depends on how you use it.
If you want a slightly larger screen, take better photos and videos, or want to use Pure Android as comfortably as possible, I think you should choose "Pro." On the other hand, if cost performance is important, "The pixel 7" is fine.
At the time of writing the article, the Google Store is running a campaign, and by combining the Google Store Credit and the trade-in of the target smartphone, you can purchase "Pixel 7" for 0. "Pixel 7 Pro" can be obtained at almost half the price because up to $420 will be backed in combination with a trade-in.
Summary
So, I've been reviewing the actual machine of "The Google Pixel 7 Pro", but I don't think it's much different from "Pixel 6 Pro" in terms of performance. However, we think that convenience is improved. I just wish they could fix the weird behavior.
Since it is a flagship pure Android smartphone made by Google, "The Pixel 7 Pro" and "Pixel 7" are recommended for those who want to use it simply.
